“L’ABBAZIA” ITALIAN LANGUAGE SCHOOL - Badia Petroia-Umbria-Italy

Our school is located in the beautiful green countryside of the Upper Tiber Valley, near the Umbrian-Tuscan border and the well-known artistic towns of Anghiari, Sansepolcro, Arezzo, Città di Castello, Gubbio, Perugia.
It takes its name from the local 11th-century Benedictine Abbey situated in Badia Petroia.

Our school offers students both a language learning holiday & a cultural experience in Umbria, involving a variety of different activities such as:

- Intensive training in the Italian language;
- Visits to beautiful medieval / renaissance towns & hill-top villages;
- Visits to museums, art galleries, ancient churches and abbeys;
- Trips to local nature reserves;
- Social and cultural events such as exhibitions, festivals, local fairs and other social
happenings;
- A genuinely Italian lifestyle characterised by relaxing “passeggiate” through the town centre,
chatting & people watching at local cafés, eating outdoors in beautiful settings, shopping at
local markets, etc.;
- Meeting and talking with local Italians;
- Getting to know local foods and wines, and perhaps learning some traditional Italian
recipes;
- Short photography courses with a locally-based professional photographer;
- Wine and olive-oil tasting;
- Following in the footsteps of the world-famous Renaissance artist Piero della Francesca
through the Upper Tiber Valley;
- Literary itineraries
- Horse riding, Tai Chi Chuan lessons, guided cycle tours.

The School’s main is to provide our students with a period of complete immersion in Italy’s culture and language, in order that they learn to effectively communicate, in an enjoyable environment, so that they may get the most out of their visits to Italy.

The School is based in a beautifully restored old stone farmhouse (agriturismo), where tradition cuisine is deftly blended with the chef’s own exciting recipes, accompanied by the very best of wines from both Umbria and the rest of Italy.

The School Director and the Course Coordinator are constantly present or available to ensure that students’ requirements are promptly met, and that they thoroughly enjoy their Italian experience.

L’Abbazia Italian Language School has recently created a blog where you can find information about the School’s activities, special events and specific itineraries during various periods of the year.

The blog is also designed to offer our students a way of communicating with us and with each other, and of exchanging information and ideas about, and experiences of, Italy - using the Italian language, of course, if they want to.

Please feel free to join in and make your contribution felt!
